Your next holiday location is ready, just relax
A converted stone barn tucked into the rolling green of the Tarn countryside, the gîte at La Vernière Cordais feels like a breath of fresh air set in a backdrop of stunning views and serene atmosphere.
Why Stay With Us?
Discover the perfect retreat at our charming, spacious, freshly renovated gîte – a beautifully converted barn nestled within the grounds of the owners' home, set in a tranquil hamlet of just three farmhouses. Ideal for walkers and nature lovers, this idyllic getaway offers stunning views of woodland, vineyards and the 13th-century village of Cordes-Sur-Ciel, one of France’s most beautiful villages.
Weathered stone walls, and a roof of terracotta tiles speak of generations; inside, thoughtful renovations have blended original beams and flagstones with modern comfort. Windows frame woodland and pasture, and mornings bring a soft light that spills across the table where breakfast — crusty bread, local honey, fresh cheese — is waiting.
Rooms are airy and calm, echoing the surrounding fields. Comfortable beds, crisp linens, and simple furnishings create an easy, unforced elegance. Bedroom One boasts a King-Size bed with a large window overlooking the picturesque landscape, including views of Cordes-Sur-Ciel, while the second bedroom features two single beds with intimate views of a serene courtyard and walled garden. An air heating system offers cozy evenings in cooler months; in summer, the air conditioned bedrooms, cool stone floors and shaded terraces are a refuge from the heat. The kitchen is well equipped for those who love to cook: modern appliances, and plenty of room to lay out produce from the weekly market.
Stay connected with free WiFi and park conveniently at the side of the gite.
So what is there to do?
Explore the breathtaking surroundings with excellent walking and cycling routes just minutes away, including the Dunes at the Sentier de Maraval, a sensitive area of natural beauty. There are plenty of scenic cyclic routes with challenging climbs for those that wish. If you want to soak in the history there are a number of museums and chateaux. In spring and early summer, delight in the sight of wild orchids and the melodious songs of golden orioles and nightingales, amongst a host of other birdsong.
Outside, terraces and garden paths lead to rolling hills and wooded areas. A turfed garden with a stone wall is perfect for late-afternoon reading; Gather at the table for slow al-fresco dinners, and a carafe of local Gaillac wine from the vineyard, just moments away, inviting long meals and conversation as stars begin to blink. The property looks onto fields where the seasonal rhythms are visible — hay bales in summer, mist in the shoulder seasons, tractors moving in the distance as farmers tend to vineyards and sunflowers. For swimming, a peaceful salt-water pool sits just outside the house, set so you feel surrounded by nature and open sky.
Conveniently located, a variety of restaurants are available to suit all budgets. There are various weekly local markets offering a taste of authentic France. Vineyards are dotted throughout the region - our nearest one (our neighbour in fact) has won multiple awards over the years for their wines. There is even a local artisanal brewery, a whisky distillery, a rum blender and an award winning olive oil producer, all within 15 minutes from the gîte by car. Cordes-Sur-Ciel, rated one of the most beautiful villages in France is just a 13-minute drive, while the charming village of Les Cabannes is 7 minutes away. The stunning village of Saint Antonin Noble Val with its calm river, serene kayaking and chalk gorge is just 25 minutes drive away.
